As Dorothy recited attempting to get back home from the wonderful world of Oz, “There’s no place like home!” And don’t we all know it! But for some of us, we are lucky enough to not only find one home, but a home away from home as well. For this Bay Area family, Kauai is their home away from home. This magical island has captivated their hearts.

Happy Beginnings

Mom and Dad were married here a few years ago, and I actually had the honor of photographing their wedding on a beautiful North Shore beach. During that trip, they were moved not only by the stunning beauty of “The Garden Isle” itself, but also the tremendous aloha spirit of the local people. They befriended some locals who quickly became friends and taught them how to fish. They became so close that they actually ended up attending their wedding. They created connections and roots here.

What a treat it was to be able to reconnect with them and photograph them a second time. Even sweeter was being able to meet their two children that they brought along with them for their return visit. Now they were taking a family trip back to Kauai that was documented on Kauai’s South Shore. We went to Shipwreck Beach fronting the stunning Grand Hyatt Kauai which is where the family was staying.

Sharing the Love

We chose a sunset session on a stormy afternoon.  While the sky was cloudy, this family’s disposition was nothing of the sort. They were all smiles and laughter throughout the entire session. The love that this couple has with one another allows them to love others, like their local friends, so well. They have shared their loving natures with their children as they are quick to give each other hugs or a quick kiss. Maybe this family has two homes because their love simply cannot be contained in just one place.
